Lewis Capaldi vs. Noel Gallagher: Every Shot Fired

Not since the days of Blur vs. Oasis in the mid 90s have we been treated to a rivalry quite like the one playing out between Lewis Capaldi and Noel Gallagher. While we have obviously had Taylor vs. Katy and Azealia Banks against absolutely everyone, they have been missing the quaint British banter that we have all come to admire from these two.

So if you have only been catching glimpses of their feud, we thought he would give a rundown of every shot fired throughout their nearly month-long tiff so far. It all began with Noel Gallagher calling out the meme lord during an interview with Radio X, claiming he had been hearing all this talk about Capaldi and ended up branding the 22-year-old singer an “idiot”.

But it wasn’t long before Capaldi charged back. Claiming that he has “peaked” as a musician. "What a day”, he said, during one of his now-famous Snapchat updates. “It's Father's Day and I'm getting slagged off by a man who's old enough to be my da'.”

Gallagher was quick to respond though. Posting a video of his 11-year-old son weeping to Capaldi’s hit single ‘Someone You Loved’, telling him he was “destroying the youth” and he should “find some joy in his music”.

But Capaldi had a plan up his sleeve. With Glastonbury just round the corner, he took the opportunity to really wind him up. Taking to the stage in traditional Oasis-inspired garb and donning a t-shirt with a picture of Noel Gallagher inside a love heart, his performance became more notorious than we could ever have hoped.

Not to mention being snapped alongside his estranged brother Liam while he was there, and even Noel’s own daughter tweeting Anaïs tweeting “I want to Lewis Capaldi when I grow up”.

Obviously incensed by his performance, Noel went from mild banter to full-on bitter old man in his next interview with Variety. He called Lewis Capaldi Chewbacca, and said he should “enjoy his 15-minutes of fame”. But Capaldi being the young and loveable scamp as always made the next best move by changing his Twitter name to Chewis Capaldi and even changing his profile picture to a photoshopped image of himself in full Chewbacca fur.

Although if Noel wants to get personal, then so does his younger rival as he was partying with Noel’s daughter Anaīs over the weekend, shouting “Dad?” into the camera.

And just this weekend at TRNSMT, Capaldi once again made a jab at Gallagher’s name-calling by wearing a Chewbacca mask on stage during his performance.

The saga continues.
