Britney Spears Announces Release of Gender-Neutral Fragrance Ahead of Pride
On Monday, pop star Britney Spears announced the release of her new gender-neutral fragrance, Prerogative, just a couple of weeks before she performs at Pride in Brighton.
Unisex fragrances are nothing new; brands such as Calvin Klein and Lynx are just a couple of brands which jumped on this bandwagon way before Britney. However, when a pop-star releases perfume as merchandise, they usually have a specific audience in mind – you wouldn’t see a bloke cutting about in 1D’s ‘Our Moment’, for example. Everyone loves a bit of Britney, and this fragrance is for all.
Not only does this perfume promote the pop-star herself, but it promotes Pride and the LGBTQ community. Releasing a unisex fragrance in the lead up to Pride is an extremely clever move for Britney, and we’re all for it.
The name of the fragrance, Prerogative, isn’t just named after one of her biggest hits. When speaking to People, Britney said that the name stands for ‘empowerment, confidence, and embracing what we all deserve: freedom without judgement’.
If you think about it, it’s more than just a unisex fragrance. It’s a message of acceptance and unity. As Britney said, it’s empowering, and it’s freedom for all. Who knew that a bottle of perfume could do all that?!
Britney will be performing at Brighton’s Pride on Saturday, August 4th, and the perfume will be available in the UK in August, too. She says “I’m so excited to be kicking off my UK tour this summer at Brighton Pride! I guarantee it’s going to be a night to remember and can’t wait to sing and dance with all of my LGBTQ fans”.
Her setlist for her ‘Piece of Me’ tour is to include hits such as Work B**ch, Womanizer, Oops!...I Did It Again, Piece of Me, Toxic, …Baby One More Time, and many more hits we all know and love.
So, basically... Britney, take all my money.
